Last Business Breakfast
Last Thursday’s Narooma Rotary Business Networking Breakfast (21 May) was the last until August, after our two-month winter break. We attracted about 30, mostly local business people, to hear a panel of speakers talk about Narooma School of Arts (NSoA), its history and the biggest community-owned infrastructure project in Narooma for 100 years. Speakers were:
- Murray Van der Veer of Moving Pictures with a short film (sponsored by the IMB) to celebrate the centenary of the Memorial Hall (operating as the Kinema) – shown for about three months in the Kinema before the feature film.
- Laurelle Pacey, NSoA Secretary and local historian on the NSoA’s 130 year history emphasising that the NSoA arts precinct is owned by this community, not Council or State Government, the community initiatives for the Narooma Arts Centre Project (NAC now nearing completion) and its objectives
- NSoA President Jenni Bourke on the NAC, what it contains, how the NAC’s objectives will be achieved and the 1 in 100 share scheme
- Teresa Lever, Eurobodalla Shire Council’s Manager Economic Development and Place Activation, on the significant economic impact the NAC Project will have on the region, particularly on the business economy through cultural tourism.
Sunday’s Rotary Market
The first of the winter markets and all night rain didn’t bode well for the new Management Committee’s first market. However, the sun did come out to shine to welcome two new stalls – Pixie’s Coffee and Adam’s Patisserie with fresh flowers a welcome addition to our Market offering as well of course many of our regular stallholders from collectibles, Mystery Bay Kelp, Anura Chair Liqueur, Sassy Kitchen and many more. The Market will continue to grow with new stall holders offering a wide range of fabulous products. Watch this space. Antoinette Lee, new Markets Manager
The Week before that!
Welcome new members
It was wonderful for our Club to welcome two new members recently, inducted by President Julie – John Bisset and Trevor Smith. We can look forward to hearing from them both about their lives in what some clubs call ‘Behind the Badge’. Welcome John and Trevor! Their induction coincided with a visit by incoming District Governor Judy Ford who spoke about the proposed new Districts for NSW.
DGR Information Session
President Julie forwarded this photo through the week of those who helped organise the wonderful Information Session on prostate cancer and men’s mental health at Club Narooma on 16 May, the night before the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) . The Prostate Cancer Support Group chaired the night. Corporate Member the Commonwealth Bank assisted with the night’s costs.

Out and About
Thank you Ange & John
Both PP Ange Ulrichsen and John Rungen have been dedicated Narooma Rotarians and mighty and valued workers for our Club over many years, both recognised as Paul Harris Fellows for their Service. They both resigned recently and will be sorely missed.
Ange has been Club President more times than any other Narooma Rotarian being President 2014-2015, sharing the Presidency in 2019-2020 with Charmaine White and Bob Aston, agreeing to again step in as President in 2020-2021 when the sitting President resigned, and similarly in 2022-2023 when then President Andrew Lawson resigned. She has also served as Youth Director and organised speakers over many years, and was a valued cog in the markets. Ange was always reliable and willing to do whatever needed doing and do it with grace and a smile.
John has been in our Club for about 13 years, Secretary for some years and worker extraordinaire. He was another valued cog in the running of the markets, a real gentleman, an honourable and wise counsel, and a steady hand always working to ensure the Club functioned smoothly and upheld Rotary values.
