The Week that Was

What a great Business Breakfast
Guest speaker at Thursday’s Narooma Rotary Business Networking Breakfast on Thursday was Eurobodalla Shire Council General Manager Mark Ferguson. We had 43 people book in. He tackled some of the major issues confronting Council, such as the high costs of operating the Bay Pavilions and the Batemans Bay Master Plan, and the n devoted about 20 minutes to answering questions from the floor that were mainly about more local issues.
Annemarie Narraway also spoke briefly about Chamber of Commerce news, including its support of a new bi-monthly local newspaper.
The next Business Breakfast on Thursday 16th April will be on Narooma Oyster Festival and Narooma Rocks other events around that time, plus the Fungi Festival.
Business Breakfasts are one of the Club’s two major Vocational Service projects. Vocational Service is the cornerstone of Rotary and was the key to the beginning of the Rotary ethos of ‘Service above Self’’.

Sunday’s Market
The Market on Sunday was frustrated by the overnight rain with quite a few distant stallholders in particular cancelling despite assurances the forecast was for a beautiful day. It still had a good vibe. Thank you to all our members who helped make the markets happen, including Victoria’s mother Emily who helped out in the food van. April’s market should be a good one being the Anzac Day long weekend.
The new box attached to the food van’s tow bar to take the barbecues was checked out by quite a few members. That should make setting up and taking down a little easier. Thanks Françoise and John.
THIS WEEK
RYDA Monday 23rd March
Our local Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) programme is this Monday 23rd March and Tuesday 24th at Moruya Jockey Club. RYDA aims to reduce the number of teenagers killed and injured on our roads each year.
RYDA in Eurobodalla Shire is run by Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma Rotary Clubs for Year 11 students from the shire’s five high schools. It is a one day school excursion which involves six interactive sessions presented by professional facilitators.
Narooma High students are going on Monday as are our Club’s volunteers David McInnes, Rachel McInnes and Ange Ulrichsen who will accompany them on the day.
Pride of Workmanship Awards Thursday 26th March
The presentation of the Pride of Workmanship awards on Thursday is one of the Club’s most prestigious events. This year we have six nominations from employers; it gives employers the opportunity to acknowledge one of their staff who goes ‘above and beyond’, and shows outstanding qualities in terms of their approach, attitude, dedication and commitment to their job. It’s not a competition. Bookings for this event have now closed.
As a Youth Project, our Club funds Narooma’s bus/buses. Batemans Bay Rotary provides morning tea; Moruya Rotary lunches.
This is another Vocational Service Project.
NEXT WEDNESDAY 1 APRIL
Wednesday 1 April 5pm Board Meeting (changed from Thursday 2nd because of Easter). Narooma Golf Club
