Narooma Rotary recognises 6 top employees
Narooma Rotary presented awards to six people nominated by their employers for their pride in their work at the Club’s annual Pride of Workmanship (POW) Awards at Club Dalmeny last Thursday.
‘These Awards are a highlight of Narooma Rotary’s year,’ said Narooma Rotary Vice President David McInnes. ‘They give local business people the opportunity to show their appreciation to someone with outstanding qualities in terms of approach, attitude, dedication and commitment to their job. Most importantly, Pride of Workmanship is not a competition. It’s a recognition of individual achievement and commitment.’
Narooma Rotary President Julie Hartley also spoke of the importance of these awards and congratulated all award winners.
Recognised were:
- Hayden Frick (Creed’s Lawn Mowing)
- Bijay Maharjan (Estia)
- Tracey Cooper (IRT Dalmeny)
- Logan Allison (Merivale)
- Brett Kelly (Narooma Auto Electrics)
- Julie Hall (Narooma Mitre 10).

Thank you to all those who helped with organising this really worthwhile project. The amazing response to our POW posting Facebook page is unprecedented. Pride of Workmanship is a Narooma Rotary Vocational Service Project.
Rotary Youth Driver Awareness programme
Another great Rotary programme last week was Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) at Moruya Jockey Club on Monday and Tuesday. ‘It was tops as always’, said PP Ange Ulrichsen. Ange, along with VP David and Rachel McInnes accompanied 44 Narooma High Year 11 students around RYDA on the Monday. St Peters and Carroll College students also attended that day, Batemans Bay and Moruya Highs on Tuesday; all up over 250 students.

RYDA aims to reduce the number of teenagers killed and injured on our roads each year and highlights both driver and passenger responsibilities. It is the leading and only national road safety education program for youth in Australia and New Zealand.
RYDA in Eurobodalla Shire is run by Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma Rotary Clubs for Year 11 students from the shire’s five high schools. It is a comprehensive, one-day road safety education program with six interactive sessions presented by professional facilitators assisted by Rotary volunteers and with the support of sponsors, including Moruya Jockey Club and the Coastal Auto Group. It is a Youth Project and our Club funds Narooma’s bus/buses. Batemans Bay Rotary does most of the organisation (thank you in particular to Pam Williams and Neil Simpson) and provides morning tea. Moruya Rotary provides lunches.
Unfortunately this year the limited availability of Symons’ buses and drivers at that time meant a second bus could not be provided which meant about 30 Narooma Year 11 students missed out. Hopefully two buses will be available next year.
All students who attended received a wrist band with ‘My Life, My Choices’.

From Batemans Bay Rotary
One of the Bay’s favourite Rotary meetings of the year is when they share dinner with first and third year medical students from ANU; this was held recently.
Twenty-two first year post graduate medical students from the ANU School of Medicine spent their first uni week in Moruya on ‘rural week’ as an introduction to their profession and their course. They were joined by five third year students who are here for the year, plus ANU staff and mentor doctors. They enjoyed a terrific barbecue dinner provided by Bay Rotarians. The Bay’s newsletter reports many Bay Rotarians did not look so good in the blood pressure or glucose readings stakes as the new students tried out their new stethoscopes on them.
Bay Rotarians also had a lot of fun last Thursday. With an Easter theme, they enjoyed a bit of Silliness Above Service when their Easter cake decorating skills and trivia knowledge was put to the test in a fun filled, relaxed social meeting.
NEXT THURSDAY 9 APRIL
Club Dinner 6 for 6.30, Club Narooma (please note change of venue). Please let Gero know if you’re coming by noon on Tuesday 7 April.
