Julie’s Jots
A reminder our Club Dinner is this Thursday for members and their partners. This is a great opportunity for members to come along, ask questions, share ideas, and enjoy a relaxed and informative conversation with the Board and with each other. It is always valuable to spend some time together, catching up and talking Rotary in a friendly and informal setting. Please come along and enjoy the evening, we look forward to seeing you there.
I recently received a lovely catch-up letter from our 2026 Tertiary Scholarship recipient Lachy Druhan. Lachy is thoroughly enjoying life at the University of Wollongong and is making the most of everything on offer there. It has also been great for him to reconnect with other students from Narooma studying in Wollongong. Lachy has also had the opportunity to meet and train with the Wollongong Lions Football Club. He will continue to train with them this coming week as they prepare for the season ahead. It’s wonderful to see him making the most of both his academic and sporting opportunities.
I would like to thank Françoise and John for sourcing the metal box and fitting it to the club van. This will store barbecues and barbecue utensils making it easier for our catering needs.
The recent board meeting decided to go ahead with an A-Frame sign to display information about what our club does in the community, as well as promote upcoming events. Ann is sourcing that for us.
Françoise is also the process of organising the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, to be held on Sunday 16th May at NATA Oval, followed by an information night at Club Narooma that evening with Brad the Pharmacist and Jamie the Physiotherapist, both from Canberra Men’s Health. More information as we get closer to the date.
NEXT WEEK
THURSDAY 19 March Business Breakfast
Our next Narooma Rotary Business Networking Breakfast on Thursday 19 March is with Eurobodalla Shire Council General Manager Mark Ferguson as guest speaker. Our Business Breakfasts are one of the Club’s two major Vocational Service projects. Vocational Service is the cornerstone of Rotary and was the key to the beginning of the Rotary ethos of ‘Service above Self’’.

Our Business Breakfasts start at 7am sharp at Narooma Surf Club (upstairs – finishing at 8). Please let Laurelle know by 9am Tuesday 17 March if you are coming. Bookings are essential if you want a seat! She will assume you will want breakfast ($10) unless she hears otherwise. If you do book in but then can’t come, please let her know, particularly if breakfast is ordered.
SUNDAY 22 March Narooma Markets
All hands on deck please. John Rungen is organising the Market Roster.
COMING UP
Pride of Workmanship Awards Thursday 26 March
Our annual Pride of Workmanship Awards, our Club’s second major Vocational Project, is one of our Club’s special nights so hopefully you can come. It’s on Thursday 26 March at Club Dalmeny 6 for 6.30pm. Please book with Laurelle by Wednesday 18th March ( the same week as the Business Breakfast). The cost is $65 per person. Payment please at the same time by direct deposit into our Charity Account. Rotarians, please make sure you put ‘your surname POW’; participating businesses please include ‘name of business POW’. It should be a top night.
These Awards give employers the opportunity to acknowledge one of their staff who goes ‘above and beyond’, publicly recognising those who show outstanding qualities in terms of their approach, attitude, dedication and commitment to their job. It’s not a competition. This project aims to publicly recognise the value of having pride in personal performance in the workplace, hence the scheme’s motto ‘Do it once, do it well’.
RYDA next week Monday 23 March
Our local Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) programme is on next Monday 23rd March and Tuesday 24th at Moruya Jockey Club. Narooma High Year 11 students will attend on the Monday. As a Youth Project, Narooma Rotary funds the bus and three of our Rotarians will accompany them on the day (David McInnes, Ange Ulrichsen and Pina Prosperi). Batemans Bay Rotary provides morning tea; Moruya Rotary lunches.
RYDA aims to reduce the number of teenagers killed and injured on our roads each year. The RYDA program is a one day school excursion which involves six interactive sessions presented by professional facilitators. The sessions include practical demonstrations of speed and stopping and hazards and distractions; discussions about rights and responsibilities and personality and its effect on decision making as well as a powerful presentation by a speaker about the crash that changed their life. It provides students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will contribute to their safe and responsible behaviour as drivers and passengers.
This will be the 17th RYDA in the Eurobodalla Shire, run as a joint project of our three Rotary clubs – Narooma, Moruya and Batemans Bay. In that time our Clubs have presented the course to over 3,300 teenagers in Year 11 from all five high schools in the Shire. Previously it was only held in Bega on the far south coast.
