The DGR Wrap Up
Fundraising for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) on 17 May 2026 has now officially closed. More than 123,000 riders in 1,071 towns and cities (including Narooma!) across 109 countries rolled out on that day in classic and vintage-inspired style to support men’s mental health and prostate cancer research through Movember, DGR’s official charity partner.
Worldwide, the DGR raised US$7.53 million this year which will fuel vital global programs focused on early cancer detection, mental health support, and suicide prevention for men, including many in Australia.
Since its founding in Sydney in 2012 by Mark Hawwa, the event has now raised over US$66 million for men’s health — a testament to the extraordinary generosity and passion of the DGR community worldwide.
Narooma was 1 of 40 towns and cities in Australia to take part. Our Narooma ride contributed $7,745 to Movember plus donations totalling $350 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, and it created a lot of good vibes. Great feedback from many people. Many thanks to Françoise Cleret and the team for all their efforts.

Spotlight on new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital
On Thursday 23 July our Club will host a NSW Health team to talk to our community about the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital to be completed in 2027. Other organisations and guests will be invited and please invite your own guests. Moruya and Batemans Bay Rotary Clubs have already hosted similar evenings which were well attended.
The Regional Hospital currently under construction in Moruya is on target to open next year after many years of planning and building. The $300 million Level 4 hospital will serve communities from Narooma to Batemans Bay providing the region’s first Intensive Care Unit, a larger Emergency Department, and upgraded maternity and surgical units. Extensive planning is well advanced for the transition of two hospitals – Moruya and Batemans Bay – into one.
The four-member Panel will do a presentation and then open it up for questions. Subjects raised at Moruya and the Bay included recruiting trained staff, accommodation for them, ‘hospital in the home’, and links with other health services.
Interesting that Moruya Rotary will provide a Rotary stationary car for the Sub Acute Rehabilitation Unit for patients to practice getting in and out of front and back seats while maintaining seat belt safety.
Also to note is that all three Eurobodalla Rotary Clubs, including Narooma, are heavily involved in community fundraising for the Carers’ Accommodation at the new hospital. Moruya CWA Branch recently pledged $170,000 to Eurobodalla Regional Hospital CAREH Inc., which will enable the construction of one entire care unit.
NEXT THURSDAY 18 June
Narooma Rotary Breakfasts are in recess over winter and will resume Thursday 20 August.
